Hi, we’re Happy Monkey and this is the bit where we tell you how great we are. Ok, we probably won’t do that as no one likes a show-off, but we will explain how we’ve come a very long way in a very short time and just why our smoothies will make you, your kids and the environment feel a whole lot better. And you have to admit that’s more than a little bit great.
Where it all began
Happy Monkey was born in 2009 when two friends with over 40 years’ experience of running UK food companies between them decided that they’d really like to quit their day jobs and go do something less boring instead. That something was Happy Monkey and from the beginning our aim was to produce smoothies for children with 100% fruit that count as 1 of your 5 a day while also benefitting the environment.
The easy choice
The first thing we did was to create two delicious flavours – orange & mango and strawberry & banana – with no added sugar, no sweetners, no preservatives, no bits and 100% pure fruit. Each carton contains one full portion of fruit and is an ideal size for a lunchbox. That last bit may not have any health benefits, but it’s handy for parents to know when agonising over what to put in their kids lunchbox each day.
As for the environment, if you check out our award-winning packaging (more of that later) you will see that we have the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal. What this means is that by joining forces with Rainforest Alliance we have ensured that all our bananas are grown in an environmentally sustainable way and that fair wages are paid to the workers so they can enjoy better living conditions, housing, medical care for them and their dependants plus free education for their children. So with the health benefits and environment all sorted the next step was to get the drinks out there to the general public. How hard can it be we wondered? Extremely was the answer. Especially when no one knows your name. So armed with an unwavering belief in our brand and drinks, we set about making sure enough people did know our name – not our real names as they are quite ordinary, more Happy Monkey – and despite the small matter of a global recession, virtually no marketing budget and some very stiff opposition in the kids smoothie department the company have seen year on year increase in sales.
Our expectations have been bettered so much we decided to expand and at the end of 2012 Happy Monkey Milkshakes arrived. They come in two great tasting flavours – chocolate and strawberry – and contain all the goodness of milk, have no artificial flavours or colouring and are school approved. Did we say they taste great as well? Yes? Ok, we’ll move on then.
Not only do we make healthy drinks for kids we also love to encourage children to get active in both body and mind by working with companies who reflect our own values. Over the years we have sponsored events such as baby discos held by the guys at Big Fish Little Fish, Fit for Sport in participation with British Olympians, Funky Moves dance classes, Spartan Kids obstacle races and local sports groups as well as lending support for charity races held by the likes of Bliss, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Wild Futures.
We’ve also recently added to the Happy Monkey range with our super-scrumptious Fruit & Vegetable smoothies. Now kids can get some much-needed vegetables into their diet without grimacing or making parents life a misery! On top of all that we are available in all major supermarkets so you really are never very far from a Happy Monkey!
And while we obviously think our drinks are great we’re delighted to know that you feel the same, which is why we’ve won a number of awards over the years including Best Children’s Drink for four consecutive years in the prestigious Loved By Parents and Loved By Children annual awards.
So there you have it, our story so far…not nearly as fantastic as actually drinking a Happy Monkey drink, but not nearly as bad as double Physics on a Monday morning.
