About company

The Great Western Brewery is a 12 barrel brewery and have been established since 2007, now celebrating our 10th year in the brewing Industry.

We are a family run business and have a team of 7 (4 of which are family) who all share the same passion for real ale. We use traditional methods when brewing and source the best ingredients we can. We create our beers using local spring water accessible from our very own 60-meter-deep borehole, tapping directly into a naturally filtered spring.

We use whole malt, which we mill ourselves the day before brewing; keeping the ripeness of the kernel (malt grain) locked up for as long as possible, producing a much fresher product and increased beer quality.

We take sustainability very seriously at GWB, nothing is wasted. The spent malt from the mashtun is collected by our local farmer, Ray (86 Years young), who feeds the grain to his cattle. The Spent hops (used as fertilizer) is picked up by locals for use on their allotments close by.

To our delight, we have moved away from plastic and all of our bottles beers are now boxed in recyclable cardboard.

The Great Western Brewing Company has been awarded The Salsa Beer and bottling Food Assured Certificate, a lot of work has been put into achieving this and we hope it will open many doors for us.

We have a automatic bottling machine which enable us to bottle many of our beers in house, We have 7 bottled ales available all in 500ml bottles 2 which have won awards at the Siba south west beer festivals, we are growing this year adding some new and exciting brews to 330ml and 500ml bottles.
